The town of Blue River is a charming mountain community located in Summit County, Colorado. Surrounded by the picturesque Rocky Mountains, Blue River offers an abundance of outdoor recreational activities, such as hiking, skiing, and fishing.

In the winter, visitors can hit the slopes at the nearby Breckenridge Ski Resort, while in the summer, they can explore the beautiful town of Blue River and its many trails.

The origin of the name “Blue River” for the town in  is rooted in the area’s geography. The Blue River itself runs through the region and is named for the bluish tint of its waters, which come from glacial silt and dissolved minerals.

The river flows for approximately 65 miles through Summit County before ultimately joining the Colorado River.

The town of Blue River was officially incorporated in 1964 and takes its name from the river that runs nearby.

The town’s founding fathers recognized the beauty and significance of the Blue River, and chose the name as a nod to the natural wonders that draw people to the area.

The Town of Blue River is a Statutory Town in Summit County, Colorado. The town was established in 1964 and it is located between Breckenridge and Hoosier Pass. The town sits on the banks of Blue River, approximately four miles south of the Town of Breckenridge.

Indiana Creek, Spruce Creek, and Pennsylvania Creeks are all tributaries that flow into the Blue River within Town.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.3 square miles, of which, 2.2 square miles of it is land. Highway 9 goes through the middle of the town and there are plenty of neighborhoods on each side.

Just a mile away from Breckenridge you can find a beautiful small lake – Goose Pasture Tarn. Owning a real estate in Blue River gives you a great benefit of having private fishing and canoeing rights on that lake.

Mountain biking, road biking, hiking, and fly fishing are the most common summer activities in the area.

  • Mountain biking has gained a lot of reputation in recent years due to countless trails such as the Peaks trail which connects Breckenridge and Frisco and the Flume Loops which explore the Highlands Area. The popular ride is a bike track, that is 9-mile long, heading towards Frisco that is parallel to Highway 9. Town offers a lot of running and biking races during the summer months that attracts a lot of outdoor lovers.
  • Quandary Peak is one of the most popular fourteeners that attracts a lot of hikers.
  • Fly fishing along the Blue River is also popular.
