History

Copper Mountain CO ski runs winter

Keystone CO was founded back in the 1970s by Max Dercum and his wife Edna. They moved from Pennsylvania, because Max got a job as a U.S Forest Service ranger. They have purchased the Black Ranch that was a stop for miners in the late 1800s. When the electricity came in the 1940s they converted it to the Ski Tip Ranch which was one of the first ski lodges in Colorado.

In 1946 Mr. Decrum got together with group of investors and created the Arapahoe Basin.

In the early 1950s the Ski Tip Ranch and Arapahoe Basin became a success and that’s when Max decided to start the Keystone project.

The Ski Valley USA cooperation was created in 1967. They developed the ski area and  successfully secured required permits from the Forest Service.

In 1969, with the help of investors from  Keystone International Inc was formed.
